CMU to revive Women's Golf
(05/17/13)

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –Last week it was announced that Tom Beidleman, a veteran golf instruction professional and experienced collegiate coach, has been hired to lead the revival of the Central Michigan women’s golf program. Women's golf was last sponsored as a CMU varsity sport in 1982. A complete competition schedule will resume in 2014-15 when CMU will become the 10th Mid-American Conference institution to field a women's golf team. Dave Hutton receives Charles E. Forsythe Award

Dave Hutton has received the Charles E. Forsythe Award awarded by the MHSAA Representative Council for contributions to high school athletics.

Hutton has coached the Grandville boys and girls teams to the state tournament a combined 20 times during his career, including 1976 and 1988 when the boys team won state championships. Hutton, who has a dual meet record of 520-180-9, was named the Michigan Golf Coach of the Year in 1977 by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Hutton, who has directed the MHSAA Golf Finals in boys and girls a combined18 times, also earned National Coach of the year in 2001 and Midwest Regional Coach of the year in 1988. He taught math and science in Grandville for 41 years before retiring three years ago.

The MIGCA Board of Directors have approved a membership agreement with the Golf Association of Michigan. Congratulations Jim Bennett

Jim Bennett, Girls Golf Coach at Grosse Ile, and former MIGCA Board member has been selected 2012 National Girls Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High School Coaches Association. Jim was the 2011 MIGCA Girls Coach of the Year which made him eligible for this national award. The 2012 MIGCA Girls Coach of the Year is John Brainard of Muskegon Mona Shores who will become eligible for this same award.


Swartout a NHSACA Finalist

Dave Swartout, the MIGCA National Coach of the Year nominee has been selected a Finalist by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Dave will attend the national meeting in Des Moines next June.
